Nice except one thing!

I just got mine from TigerDirect (refurbished) and the picture is amazing.

There is one annoying feature which I can't understand how the developers missed this! I have an HD cable box connected to my Philips unit using the component cables. To view the HD input you have to press the "HD" button on the remote. When you power off the TV and then power it back on, the video source always defaults to "AV1". I would expect it to come back on programmed to the last video source used. To me this is an important feature as I have programmed my cable remote to use the TV but I need the Philips remote for that stupid "HD" button. This is a really big annoyance. It wouldn't be that hard to remember the last source you were using. For an $800 system, this should be standard!

Would recommend

If you need a PC monitor doubling as a TV, this is the perfect one. Note that PIP mode works only if PC monitor refresh rate setting is 60 Hz. This can be set in the Control Panel -> Display and then clicking on Settings tab, Advanced and then choose Monitor and select 60Hz as the refresh rate.
Even with 17" TV I have to sit back by more than 4 to 5 feet to view it. Very easy to setup. The Philips sustomer service was pretty good too when I could not get PIP to operate as I had set refresh rate to 85 Hz.

high quality product with versatility

I did alot of research before deciding to buy the 17PF9945. I think its a best buy. The picture quality is exceptionally good for an LCD screen. It carries alot of features of wide screenTV sets at a much higher price level. FM stereo tuner is an important plus. Ideal as a second TV set for the bedroom. I highly recommend it.
