much better than my old hi-8 cam

As with any new medium, the dvd-cam format takes time to learn about and understand. The recorded picture quality while maybe not brodcast quality was crisp and undistorted. while the color reproduction was not precise, it was acceptable to everyone who viewed it. The sound clarity was very good and sensitive over moderate distance. Transfers of recordings from the dvd-cam to my home dvd recorder or my computer was flawless and copies were identical to the original without signal loss or the degradation you get from tape transfer. The still image again though not in the upper mega-pixel rarea was within my acceptable range. My advice is: if you want oustanding clear stills, keep that high mega-pixel camera and use this camcorder for motion. That's really why I bought it in the first place. And for the price I think it is a very usable product.
