Setup and Use

As with any Bluetooth device, the first thing to do is establish a wireless partnership with another Bluetooth item. In the case of the Logitech headset, setup with a compatible cellular phone is not an incredibly complex process. After turning your headset's discovery mode on, you then do the same for your phone (how you do this exactly depends upon the model of phone you have — the Sony T616 tested with the headset was a few simple menu clicks). The two devices will then talk to each other and in a few moments should be ready to use.

When a call comes in, a ring is heard in the earpiece. Pressing the multi-function button will connect you, though trying to find it can be somewhat frustrating since it is quite small.

In tests under normal operating conditions (for example driving and talking), the Logitech headset performed fairly well. Most people on the other end said the voice quality was good, though several complained about a buzzing and/or echo sound. However, it wasn't clear to us whether this is a condition of the headset's Bluetooth connection or normal cellular usage.

On the owner's side of things, sound quality was strong and fairly clear with only some once-in-a-while crackling. A touted background noise cancellation feature worked as advertised, blocking out exterior noise effectively from one caller who was inside a noisy mall.

Another claim made by Logitech of a 30 foot maximum distance from phone to headset before the signal dropped out was somewhat accurate. Tests showed the signal starting to get choppy around 15 or 20 feet, with callers having a difficult time hearing.

Conclusion

The overall experience with the Logitech Mobile Bluetooth Headset was one of pleasure and relatively few drawbacks. The $99.95 price point is low compared to other headsets on the market, and the features you get make it a solid buy despite the rare sound glitch.

Things Logitech might want to consider in future development of these types of headsets include a car charger as part of the retail package, longer talk time and a better placed multi-function button.

For those looking to step up to quality wireless accessories for the wireless world, the Logitech Mobile Bluetooth Headset is definitely a solid start.
